  • How often do people go to therapy and for how long?

This is part of the collaborative process. Some people want to be seen weekly, others bi-weekly. Even then, some schedule monthly.

Short and long term therapy options are available. It just depends what you are wanting to work on. In the end, it best to do what is best for you, so you will not be obligated to sign up for more than you’re ready for or needing.

  • Is therapy always serious?

Like life, sometimes it’s serious and sometimes it’s not. Therapy is the same way. Sometimes, you may work on heavy things and other times, you work on more surface level things. There's progress in both. Both have value to the therapy journey.

  • Will I have to talk about things I don't want or may not be ready to?

Therapy is what you want it to be. It is not the job of the therapist to push beyond what you need or want. A therapist may gently discuss noticing hesitation in talking about things, but will never force you to.

It is your story to tell if or when you are ready.

  • What about privacy and confidentiality?

Things you discuss in therapy as well as your personal information are confidential. They are protected health information under HIPAA. You have a right to this confidentiality. It is a strongly held ethical belief to protect your privacy and confidentiality.

HIPAA compliant platforms are used for virtual therapy. Communication outside of therapy is treated with the same beliefs to protect your privacy.

If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to talk further. Please contact us.

  • Are there are any exceptions to privacy and confidentiality?

While confidentiality and privacy are respected ethical requirements, there are some exceptions to that. Examples include but are not limited to:

-Abuse or Neglect of a Child, Elder or Dependent Adult (can be suspected)

-a Serious Threat of Violence to Yourself or Someone Else
